Description

MISCO PA201 Precision BRIX Refractometer

The MISCO PA201 digital Brix refractometer is a valuable instrument for determining the sugar content in fruits, vegetables, juices, beverages, and in wine and beer making. It is also used extensively as a base scale for measuring non-sugar fluids such as metalworking fluids, lubricants and industrial chemicals. Range 0 to 56 Brix, Resolution 0.1%, Precision +/-0.1%.

The MISCO Palm Abbe PA201 has a single Brix scale from 0 to 56 Brix. Brix is a measure of sugar concentration, sucrose, to be exact. One degree Brix is the equivalent of 1 gram of sucrose in a 100 gram sucrose solution. Therefore, Brix is actually the percent by weight (% w/w) of sucrose in a solution. A refractometer with a Brix scale is often used for measuring the sugar concentration in fruits, vegetables, juices, soft-drinks, as well as wine and beer making.

MISCO PA201 BRIX Scale

The Brix scale is also widely used for many non-sugar applications, such as metalworking fluids, where people are interested in total dissolved solids. In these applications, the known concentrations of reference fluids are measured on a refractometer, relative to the Brix scale, and the relationship between Brix and concentration is graphed. The concentration of future samples can be easily determined by measuring the Brix value of a fluid on a refractometer and using the chart to convert the Brix reading into the required unit of measure. .

The Palm Abbe refractometer is fast, convenient, and easy to use. Simply place a drop or two of fluid in the stainless steel well and press a button. The custom-designed microprocessor delivers a nearly instantaneous readout in degrees Brix. Nonlinear temperature compensation is automatic and ensures that fluids read between 0 and 50 °C (+32 to 122 °F) are measured accurately.

The large backlit LCD display is easily read, even in dim light, and removes the subjectivity associated with interpreting where a boundary line crosses tiny scale divisions. And, it is so easy to use! The user interface consists of two buttons, one to take readings and the other to step through various menu options.

Calibration is automatic and does not require the use of special calibration solutions or tools. The Palm Abbe refractometer automatically calibrates itself to water and is ready to use in seconds. No more screws to turn and nothing to adjust.
