How to test for legionella risks in water?
Incorrect water temperature is a key risk factor for Legionella growth. The Legionella bacteria multiply in water at temperatures between 20 to 45 °C, particularly if a supply of nutrients is present, such as scale, rust, sludge or algae.
A typical method of control is to store cold water below 20 °C. Hot water should be stored above 60 °C and distributed at above 50 °C. Regular testing using a water temperature thermometer helps control legionella risks.

Therma 1 legionella thermometer
The legionnaires’ test kit includes a robust, easy-to-use Therma water temperature thermometer. Featuring a wide temperature range of -100 to 1370 °C, the Therma 1 legionnaires’ thermometer is compatible with any type K thermocouple probes.
The Therma 1 has a minimum of five years of battery life and features an auto power-off function to reduce battery usage. In addition, the hold function makes recording temperatures easy.
Complete legionella testing kit
The premium legionnaires’ test kit features three different probes for testing various water system elements. The Penetration Temperature Probe can be used to record tap water temperatures, the Ribbon Surface Temperature Probe for pipe surfaces and tanks and the Wire Probe is ideal for hard-to-reach areas.
The kit also comes with aFREE Water-Resistant Countdown Timer to ensure tests are conducted for the correct amount of time. The mini tub of Probe Wipes makes probes easy to wipe clean. The legionella testing kit comes safely stored inside an ABS carrying case, making it easy to transport everything you need to different water outlets.
A FREE traceable calibration certificate is also included so that you can be confident in the accuracy of your tests.
